Chained Beasts beginner guide

Checked 2026-10-18

Start with Carthage, chain coordination, and the training screen. These tips summarize store text and official announcements; they are not a tested first-run walkthrough.

Source note: this is desk research, not first-hand gameplay. Achievement names, conditions, and internal IDs were checked against the official Steam page saved on 18 October 2026. Training details come from the 25 September 2025 announcement, not from testing the launch build.

Twelve tips from the source text

  • You can play alone. You can also chain up to three friends. Same-screen needs a gamepad.
  • Throw weapons, then have another weapon ready. The store text says that outright.
  • Urns, spike walls, and snake pits are weapons. Destruction of Property asks you to break 10 obstacles in a round.
  • The chain trips people. Trip Master is 100 chain trips. Pop! is squeezing someone with the chain.
  • If the group pulls different ways you wrap a pillar. That failure mode is in the official blurb.
  • The crowd throws things. Pay Attention is dying to an object the crowd threw. Watch the stands.
  • Wounds stick. A limp, a missing eye, or a hallucination can all be afflictions. Potions have side effects.
  • Surgery is listed in the store description. Dead Weight officially asks for a body part to be amputated; that objective is not a tested treatment recommendation.
  • Training uses a shared group bar, random 1–3 reps per attempt, and individual pain and injuries, as described in the 25 September 2025 announcement.
  • The merchant sells gear. Majority Stakeholder is 400 coins in one run. Moneybags is buying the whole shop at once.
  • Executions are a system, not a flourish. Thumbs Down is 100 executions.
  • Difficulty has 10 ranks. The top rank’s achievement is King of the Gods, “Win a run on Jupiter difficulty”.

How shared training works

The 25 September 2025 playtest announcement describes a shared training bar. Each training attempt produces a random 1–3 reps. Pain and injuries belong to the individual player, rather than being shared with the group. This is the announced pre-release system, not a fresh test of the launch build.

Suggested approach: check the shared bar together, look at your own pain and injuries before another attempt, and agree when to stop. A teammate completing the bar can explain why your own training sequence feels short. That is an interpretation of the shared-bar design, not a diagnosis of a particular bug.

Beast XP unlocking variants is a separate progression system in the May 2026 announcement. The training instructions above do not tell you to spend that XP at the Trainer. Official achievement conditions mention reaching Trainer level 20 and winning without levelling there; they do not establish a level cap.

A first-run shape

The launch announcement describes 3 chapters and 9 battles. Official achievement conditions associate Can’t Stand The Heat with Carthage, Out of the Cold with Germania, and Rebel Leader with reaching The Senate. These are progression landmarks, not evidence about why players stop or how long your run will take.

Suggested approach: start with an available beast and learn its in-game instructions. The Ibex and Rhino win achievements had the highest player unlock percentages in the 17 October 2026 snapshot. Those percentages do not measure success per attempt, popularity, or the best starting choice.
