Chained Beasts co-op guide

Checked 2026-10-18

Chained Beasts supports 1–4 players and the developer confirms online crossplay. Steam, Xbox, and Switch list local play; PS5 lists 1–4 players and online play requires PS Plus. This site has not tested every console-to-PC lobby pair.

I compared category flags. Steam full game: Single-player, Online Co-op, Shared/Split Screen Co-op, Cross-Platform Multiplayer, Remote Play Together. The demo has the co-op tags and not the cross-platform tag. Xbox lists local co-op 2–4, online 2–4, and a cross-platform co-op flag. Switch online is 2–4 and needs Nintendo Switch Online. PS5 online for four is reported on the store page; a crossplay sentence is not.

Headcount

“Unconfirmed” means the page I read did not say, not that the feature is absent.
Setup	Steam	PS5	Xbox	Switch
Solo	Yes	Yes	Yes	Yes
Same screen	Yes, needs a pad	1–4 players listed; local split layout not tested	2–4 local	1–4 local
Online	Yes	Up to 4, requires PS Plus	2–4	2–4, needs NSO
Crossplay	Category present	Unconfirmed	Flag present	Unconfirmed
Remote Play Together	Yes	—	—	—

How a session actually feels

The chain does not care that you are friends. The store says unsynced movement wraps a pillar. Agree on a direction, then trip. Split-screen on PC is listed, and the system requirements add that same-screen co-op wants at least one gamepad. I would not plan a keyboard-only couch session.

Three players is inside the 1–4 range. Nothing in the store text says the chain logic changes at three. I am not going to invent a “three-player penalty”.

Frequently asked questions

Is Chained Beasts couch co-op?

On Steam, yes: Shared/Split Screen Co-op. Bring a gamepad. Xbox and Switch also list local play.

Chained Beasts system requirements

Can I play with one friend online?

Yes. Online co-op is a Steam category, and the player count starts at 1, so two is inside the range.

Does crossplay work?

Steam and Xbox expose a cross-platform flag. I have not seen a Featherweight chart that says PS5 can join a Steam lobby. Treat that pair as unconfirmed.
